Back Acne

Back acne or "backne" occurs to some people and it is the same as acne breakouts on the face and neck. Almost all teenagers experience pimple breakouts and acne is the severe form since it affects and may cover a large area of the facial skin.

Some people have acne on their chests, necks and other areas aside from the face. But those who have backne may dread and hate the condition altogether. Acne can be painful, so you can imaging the pain and discomfort it can cause to a person when it is situated at the back area. Lying down and resting on your back would be a problem if you have severe back acne attacks.

There is no specific cause of backne formation and attacks. It is similar with acne on the face and other areas. Experts believe that most acne formation and breakouts are caused by the overproduction of sebaceous glands during puberty or when the body experiences extreme hormonal changes.

* Other possible causes of backne: *

- Wearing tight clothing may cause back acne since it forces perspiration to be trapped against the skin. This can lead to skin irritation, then rashes, then pimples and finally acne.

- Carrying of heavy backpack may cause irritation on your back particularly on the areas where the straps press hard against the skin [shoulders and back]. The friction caused by the straps can cause irritation and it can lead to acne breakouts.

- It is possible that the acne-triggering foods may cause acne in prone areas of your body. If you have acne on the face and neck, chances are it could also develop on your chest and back. But this is still subject to the severity of the condition, how your hormones react to the food that triggers acne and how your sebaceous glands will react to these factors.

* Treating back acne *

Moderate acne breakouts on your back area can be treated the same way as acne on other parts of the body. You may use over-the-counter medications such as topical creams and other medicated acne relievers. But with severe acne attacks, it is imperative to consult your doctor especially if it's already causing serious skin damage and cysts. Immediate consultation can limit the severity of the scarring and other skin problems that go with it.

Prevention and natural treatments can also be used to control your backne especially when it's just at the onset.

* Wearing breathable fabrics is an important practice if you already have backne going on. This allows your skin to breathe and be refreshed even when there's perspiration. Avoid abrasive fabrics, spandex, and tightly-woven materials that won't allow your skin to breathe. Cotton is the best fabric to wear if you have this condition.

* Mild acne soaps are okay to use when cleansing or bathing. This helps clean the bacteria and dirt that may be present that which aggravates your acne.

* During the warm seasons acne attacks seem to be more problematic, so it's important that you are always hydrated and your skin is always kept clean and dry from sweat. As much as you can, wear more breathable clothing during this season to allow movement and less perspiration.
